June’s Intention

In continuation with a mini resolution each month, for June I have decided to exercise or do some sort of physical activity each day. It doesn’t have to be an intense, hour long workout, just something to get me active instead of melting into the couch while watching my 100th episode on Netflix that day.

For the most part, I have stayed pretty active, although it doesn’t compare to how active I was before all of the gyms closed. The purpose of this is not only to continue a healthy lifestyle, but to also improve my mood. Scientists say that when you workout, your body releases endorphins, which improves your mood. Personally, I have found this fact to be true. I can definitely feel a difference in my mood right after a workout if it has been a while since I was active.

If you are also feeling the lack of physical stimulation, or motivation, I hope this inspires you. Here are some ideas of things I have done that you could also do from home:

  • Play JustDanceNow – all you need is a computer or smart TV and your phone! It’s a super fun dance game that is also a great workout. I play it with friends on Skype and share my screen so we can play together.
  • Play DDR – I used to play this when I was in middle school, and thankfully didn’t throw it away. So now I pull it out when I need some fun cardio. For those that don’t know, DDR is Dance Dance Revolution. Look it up. It’s pretty fun.
  • Workout with free weights – I found some 5 lb. weights that I dusted off (literally) and use for arm workouts. If you need a routine, EdgeFitnessClubs does live videos every day on Instagram that you could follow along with, or just find a routine that you like on YouTube! If you don’t have weights, you could always find some things around the house like jugs of juice or cleaning supplies.
  • Go for a walk – now that the weather is nice, it’s an easy motivator to enjoy the sunshine after being stuck in front of a computer screen all day.
  • Go for a run – I don’t run very much, but sometimes on the weekends I go for a long job to change up my routine a bit. It might work for you too!
  • Go for a bike ride – if you don’t have a bike, you could always get one! My mom recently bought a bike from a shop with this motivator in mind.

Of course there are loads of other things you can easily do from home. Yoga comes to mind, but I personally don’t enjoy it very much, so I stick with the other options I have. Let me know what works for you! Stay safe and stay healthy!
