From Goodreads to The StoryGraph

A few people asked me about this when I posted my year in review stats on my Instagram story in January. (You can view that story here.) When I first started recording what books I read (way back in the old days), I used Goodreads. But then in 2021, I saw a new app trending within the BookTok community: The StoryGraph.

This is a website as well as an app, and has all of the same functions as Goodreads. The only difference is that it’s better. At least in my opinion. The StoryGraph offers a lot more options and statistics compared to Goodreads. You can get personalized recommendations, discover books by mood, and more.

The site also encourages more of a community, at least in my experience. For example, you can participate in challenges hosted by other users, like a genre challenge. There is also a buddy reads feature, which allows you to read the same book with someone virtually. At the very least, I think it’s a slightly better system to keep track of your TBR and log what you have read.

If you are currently a Goodreads user and don’t want to start completely over, don’t worry! The StoryGraph allows you to export all of your information directly from Goodreads, so you won’t lose anything. The process is also fairly simple – all you have to do is follow their instructions.

And there you have it! A mini review and recommendation to hopefully help other book lovers keep some organization within their TBRs. Thank you for reading! Stay safe and stay happy.
